Seoul is where the money is
The single biggest story of the day isn't a product launch — it's a country. Korean and international tech companies have agreed to pursue AI partnerships worth more than $950 billion in total, putting South Korea at the center of the global buildout rather than on its periphery.
The concrete version of that number arrived alongside it. NAVER, Nvidia and Brookfield are supersizing the initial Nvidia DSX AI factory buildout to 200 megawatts, according to GlobeNewswire and DQ India — a jump that moves the project from national showcase to serious industrial infrastructure. Power, not silicon, is increasingly the unit that matters in these announcements, and 200MW is a statement of intent.
Nvidia isn't just selling into the country, either. It has opened a joint AI research lab in Seoul with KAIST, one of Korea's leading science and technology universities, aimed squarely at agentic AI. Compute, capital and researchers, announced within the same news cycle: that's a full stack, and it's a deliberate one.
Industrial policy goes global
Everybody wants the factories. In the US, the Trump administration's drive to pull more AI chip manufacturing onshore is beginning to reshape the industry's largest players — Intel, Google and TSMC all feeling the pull, per Yahoo Finance and Memeburn. Chip supply chains take years to move, but the pressure is now a permanent input to corporate planning rather than a political talking point.
Britain is running its own version. The Financial Times reports that semiconductor manufacturing and drones are set to sit "at the" heart of Burnham's pitch to reindustrialise the country. It's a narrower bet than Korea's — two technologies rather than a national compute grid — but the logic rhymes: pick the strategic industries, then build.
Humanoids arrive, and the pushback starts
Robots are graduating from demo reels. Siemens says humanoid machines are now loading crates and sniffing out gas leaks in real deployments. And China's Unitree has quietly become a giant: the Hangzhou company shipped 5,500 humanoid robots, roughly a quarter of the entire market, according to Charlie Campbell's profile in Time. That's a market share most people outside robotics haven't registered yet.
The backlash arrived on the same day. A plan to place a humanoid, AI-powered robot in a New York high school has drawn sharp criticism from teachers and their union, The Guardian reports. The contrast is the story: nobody minds a robot in a warehouse aisle, but a classroom is a different social contract. Expect that line — industrial yes, human-facing not so fast — to get drawn repeatedly over the next year.
Quantum's alliance era
Quantum computing is currently being built out of partnerships and public money rather than breakthroughs. The Quantum Insider reports IQMP and Q-STAR have partnered in Japan, with Illinois adding to a growing pile of state-backed commitments. On the science side, Interesting Engineering flags the quantum Zeno effect — the counterintuitive result that repeated observation can effectively freeze a quantum system — as a possible tool for keeping larger machines stable while they run. Useful, if it scales.

Google's Pixel 11 is going to cost more than the Pixel 10. VP of Devices and Services Shakil Barkat all but confirmed it to 9to5Google, per The Verge — no number yet, just the direction of travel.
One bright spot for buyers: Thermaltake's View u2660T-170, an RTX 5060 Ti prebuilt listed at $1,800, is down to as little as $1,177 on Woot, roughly a third off, according to Tom's Hardware. AI may be eating the world's power grid, but gaming rigs are still on sale.
