The Headline Numbers

We're tracking 3,598 open AI/ML roles today. Europe leads with 1,767 listings (49% of the board), the US follows at 1,330 (37%), India accounts for 469 (13%), and the remainder is thin: 24 across the rest of world and 8 in the UAE.

The practical takeaway: if you're filtering by region, Europe and the US together hold 86% of everything listed. Roles outside those three main markets are rare enough that a targeted search beats browsing.

Who's Hiring Most

Capital One dominates the board with 218 open roles — more than triple the next employer — and posts across the seniority range, including Lead Machine Learning Engineer. After that the volume drops fast:

Two patterns stand out. First, finance is the loudest sector: Capital One, J.P. Morgan, State Street, BNY, and Europace (FinTech, Germany) are all actively posting. Second, defense and government contracting is a real employer of data scientists — Booz Allen Hamilton and Leidos together account for 91 listings.

Common Role Types

The listings cluster into four buckets:

  • Machine Learning Engineer / Data Scientist — the core technical role, spanning Machine Learning Engineer I through Staff and Lead titles.
  • Generative AI specialist roles — GenAI Engineer, Generative AI Architect, Generative AI Platform Manager, GenAI Automation Engineer. These are now a distinct track, not a subheading under ML.
  • Non-engineering AI roles — Business Analyst (AI/GenAI), Business Development Manager for GenAI, AI Specialist for Graphic Design, project management. Domain knowledge substitutes for a modeling background here.
  • Freelance and entry-level — data annotation and AI trainer gigs, freelance Python contracts via Collective.work, and explicit "no experience needed" junior AI engineer postings in Europe.

Domain-specific AI is growing too: legal AI, insurance, and education roles all appear in the current sample.
