A leaked benchmark suggests AMD's next-generation laptop processor is shaping up to be a standout performer.
According to Tom's Hardware, AMD's upcoming 10-core mobile chip from the "Medusa Point" family has appeared on the Geekbench benchmarking database again — this time posting its best result yet. In the single-core portion of the test, which measures how fast a processor handles one task at a time, the leaked chip outpaced every other x86 mobile processor.
That "x86" label matters: it's the long-standing chip architecture used by both AMD and Intel in most Windows laptops. Claiming the top single-core spot in that field is a notable bragging point, because single-core speed heavily influences everyday responsiveness — things like app launches and web browsing.
Tom's Hardware notes that the numbers keep improving. The Medusa Point part is looking considerably faster than AMD's two previous mobile designs, referred to in the report as Gorgon Point and Strix Point. The publication describes a pattern of early leaks highlighting a chip that gets stronger with each appearance.
A few caveats are worth keeping in mind. These are leaks, not official AMD announcements, and pre-release benchmark scores can shift before a product ships. An APU — a chip that combines processing and graphics on one piece of silicon — is also judged on more than a single benchmark.
