Geothermal energy developer Fervo Energy is teaming up with chipmaker Nvidia and the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) to build a new AI-powered platform aimed at speeding up geothermal energy development.

At the center of the partnership is a "digital twin" — a detailed virtual model of a real-world system — for Enhanced Geothermal Systems, or EGS. EGS is a newer approach to geothermal power that engineers underground rock to produce heat in places where conventional geothermal wells wouldn't work. According to Seeking Alpha, the platform is called EGS-Twin and is described as a next-generation tool for the technology.

The collaboration brings together complementary strengths: Fervo's geothermal field expertise, Nvidia's computing and AI hardware, and PNNL's national-laboratory research. Investing.com and Seeking Alpha both reported the tie-up, with Fervo trading publicly on the Nasdaq under the ticker FRVO.

Digital twins let engineers simulate and test conditions virtually before committing to expensive physical drilling and operations. By modeling the complex behavior of underground reservoirs, the partners aim to make EGS projects faster, cheaper and more predictable to develop.
