Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated a semiconductor manufacturing facility at Sanand in the Indian state of Gujarat, framing the moment as a step toward technological self-reliance.

According to a PTI report, Modi said India is building the entire electronics value chain — spanning finished products, components and semiconductors — describing this as central to the country's ambitions. He argued that India's youth would drive the coming revolution in artificial intelligence, robotics and other next-generation technologies using "Made-in-India" chips.

At the inauguration, Modi said Sanand was emerging as a global semiconductor cluster, comparing it to internationally recognized manufacturing ecosystems such as Silicon Valley in the United States and Taiwan, according to reporting carried by MSN.

Semiconductors are the tiny chips that run nearly every modern device, from phones and cars to the data centers behind AI. For years, their production has been concentrated in a handful of places, leaving countries like India dependent on imports. Building domestic capacity is meant to reduce that reliance and capture more of the economic value in electronics.

The emphasis on youth and indigenous chips signals that the government sees chipmaking not just as an industrial goal but as a foundation for training a workforce around AI and robotics.
