RealSense has introduced the D585 Pro, a new depth camera built specifically for robots, alongside a software tool called Perception Studio. The company announced both at Automate 2026, a robotics trade event, according to Business Wire.
Depth cameras help machines see in three dimensions, judging how far away objects are rather than just capturing a flat image. That ability is essential for robots that need to grasp items, navigate spaces, or work safely around people.
What sets the D585 Pro apart, according to The Robot Report, is that it is "AI-native" — designed from the ground up to work with artificial intelligence rather than bolting AI on afterward. The camera is powered by what RealSense calls a proprietary Gen 5 SoC, a custom system-on-a-chip that handles processing on the device itself.
The Robot Report says the D585 Pro delivers more than two times better depth quality than previous RealSense cameras. The accompanying Perception Studio software is positioned as part of the company's push to expand AI-driven vision for robotics, Business Wire reports.
