At Reliance Industries' 49th annual general meeting, chairman Mukesh Ambani placed artificial intelligence at the center of the conglomerate's next growth phase. According to coverage from Moneycontrol and MSN, Ambani argued that AI self-sufficiency should become a national priority for India, ranking it alongside energy security and access to critical resources.
The concrete plan came from Akash Ambani, who told shareholders that the company's new unit, Reliance Intelligence, is building a "sovereign AI backbone" in Jamnagar. Per Business Today, the first 120 megawatt phase is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2026. Republic World reports the facility is designed to run entirely on solar energy.
Moneycontrol reports that Reliance is operationalising an initial fleet of advanced NVIDIA GB300 GPUs at the Jamnagar data centre, describing the compute capacity as equivalent to more than 75,000 H100 GPUs on an AI-inference basis.
Akash Ambani framed the effort in nationalist terms, saying, according to Moneycontrol, that the goal is to "disrupt AI economics" and make AI affordable for every Indian: "What we are building is an AI for India, AI by India, and AI that will one day serve the world." The roadmap also includes 22-language services, an AI voice assistant, a MyJio adviser and Jio TeleFrame.
