A startup called Uncovr has closed a $7 million seed round to build an AI platform that automates surgical documentation, according to Fierce Healthcare.
Surgical documentation is one of medicine's most time-consuming and error-prone tasks. Surgeons and OR staff must record detailed procedure notes, implant information, and billing codes — often by hand or voice, frequently after long shifts. Errors in those records can delay reimbursements, create compliance headaches, or in rare cases compromise patient safety.
Uncovr is betting that artificial intelligence can shoulder that burden, capturing and structuring what happens in the operating room so clinicians don't have to reconstruct it from memory afterward.
The seed funding suggests early investor confidence in the category. Healthcare AI startups focused on clinical documentation — sometimes called ambient AI or ambient clinical intelligence — have drawn significant capital in recent years, as hospitals look for ways to cut administrative overhead without adding staff.
The surgical suite is a harder environment than a standard exam room: procedures are complex, terminology is specialized, and the stakes for accuracy are high. A platform that can reliably document what happened during an operation, and feed that data cleanly into electronic health records and billing systems, could save hospitals meaningful time and money.
If Uncovr can deliver on that promise, it stands to reduce one of the most persistent sources of burnout among surgeons — the documentation burden that follows them long after the patient has left the OR.
