Defense AI
Defense AI refers to artificial intelligence systems developed and deployed for military and defense applications, spanning autonomous platforms, drone coordination, threat detection, and tactical decision-making.
Global adoption has accelerated markedly in recent years. Ukraine has emerged as both a practical deployment site and data contributor, implementing AI-powered systems for drone detection while combat footage spanning hundreds of thousands of hours becomes available to AI developers worldwide. This convergence of real-world application and training data has intensified development cycles.
Competition for capability and market position now spans multiple levels. Major technology companies including Nvidia, Microsoft, and Amazon are competing for Pentagon contracts, while established defense firms like CACI gain certification through dedicated government AI procurement systems. South Korea has launched coordinated military AI initiatives, reflecting broader recognition that defense AI represents a strategic priority and new form of technological competition among nations.
